Sumner serves first through fourth grade students from the northwest part of Austin and we pride ourselves on maintaining a neighborhood feel to our school.

At Sumner, we focus on growing all student skills, from academic to social-emotional and everything in between.  We focus on the Zones of Regulation, helping students identify their current emotions and how to best regulate emotions.

Sumner has been named a PBIS Minnesota Sustaining Exemplar school, one of only 76 in the state. PBIS is an evidence-based framework for preventing problem behavior, providing instruction and support for positive and prosocial behaviors, and supporting social, emotional and behavioral needs for all students.
