About Our School
Welcome to Sumner!
At Sumner Elementary School, we are proud to be a caring and compassionate community for ALL learners. Our Sumner Stars model our four rules: Be Kind, Work Hard, Make No Excuses, and Choose Well. We are a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) school, celebrating the many strong choices our students make throughout their school day. PBIS is an evidence based, tiered framework that focuses on encouraging strong student behavior by teaching expectations and strategies to create a more positive school climate. One of the key components of our social emotional education is our focus on self-regulation strategies through the use of Zones of Regulation, MindUp!, Second Step and other resources! Students begin each day by taking three collective breaths to prepare their mind and body for the work ahead of them. This intention to the development of social-emotional literacy within our children supports improved focus, concentration, and academic performance. We encourage students to practice these skills inside and outside of school to help reduce stress, anxiety, conflict, and support them to safely manage emotions.
Sumner Elementary provides students with quality educational opportunities. Our district curriculum offers both intervention and extension programming to support students at their level, stretching their reading and math abilities. We have trained intervention specialist in both reading and behavior to ensure we are meeting all student needs and accelerating learning. In addition, our students engage in physical education, music, and art every week. Our school family is committed to Growing Greatness at Sumner elementary school!
